iPad in business

This week, Truscott Rossman rolled out iPads to all employees as a business productivity tool. With clients all over the state, and offices in Lansing, Detroit and Grand Rapids, we’re on the go all the time. The portability of the iPads coupled with 3G cellular data connections means that wherever we are, we’ll always be connected to the office and to our clients.

I’ve owned an iPad since April 2010, but until recently, never really used it much in the office – I was really missing out.
On this blog, we’ll feature some of our favorite iPad in Business tips over time as we use them in the office more and more.

Taking Notes

The iPad makes a great replacement for pen and paper. I’m notorious for keeping multiple paper notebooks at a time and then losing track of which notebook I used for what meeting. With the iPad, everything’s in one place.

There are a few great iPad apps for taking notes. My favorite two so far are Notability and Notes Plus, both of which are available in the iPad App Store.
Notability lets you take notes using the iPad’s on-screen keyboard while recording audio from a meeting. Then, when you’re reviewing notes later, you can touch any word and the audio playback will skip to that segment of the meeting recording. Here’s a quick video on Notability:

Notes Plus is another great iPad notetaking app. With Notes Plus, you’re not just limited to using the on-screen iPad keyboard to take notes – you can also use a stylus (which is available separately from the iPad) to write notes directly on the screen just like you would with pen and paper.
